What types of pools do you prefer? Concrete or Fibreglass?

When it comes to choosing between a fibreglass swimming pool and a concrete (also known as Gunite) swimming pools, there are both pros and cons to both. Bear in mind that cost should not be the only factor that assists you with your choice, factors such as maintenance and what the pool will look like; including the size plays a pivotal role in your decision.

Fibreglass pools are generally less costly than concrete and this includes the maintenance too. However, there are both benefits to a fibreglass pool as well as a concrete pool. Deciding on which to go with should be easier if you consider the below points.

The fact of the matter is:

  • Fiberglass may or may not be the right pool for you. Therefore, it is NOT for everybody.
  • Concrete may or may not be the right pool for you. Therefore, it is NOT for everybody.

Decide from the points below which are the best pools for you:

  • You are looking for a VERY customized shape or size that is not offered in the fibreglass line.
  • You are looking for a pool DEEPER than 2.5 metres. Perhaps you want a very springy diving board and you want to be able to do many tricks.
  • Costly maintenance costs are not an issue for you.
  • Time spent on weekly maintenance does bother you either.
  • You want the pool to have many natural rock features, grottos, perhaps even a ‘pond’ appearance.
  • You are looking for a beach entry
  • You don’t mind the roughness of the concrete feel under your feet. Concrete is known to hurt feet.

You should choose a fibreglass pool if:

  • Doing weekly maintenance should not take up a lot of your time. You are looking for a swimming pool that will likely have very minimal major repairs.
  • You are looking for a quick pool installation.
  • You are looking for a pool that is small.

There are many advantages and disadvantages to both a concrete and fibreglass pool. It is up to you to decide which will work for you and what is the better option not just with installation but for the lifespan of the swimming pool.
